About Me

Welcome to Disdainful-Soul.net. I am your host, Catherine, a twenty-two year old from New Zealand. You may be more familiar with it as Middle Earth, and I should tell you now that not all of New Zealand actually looks like what you saw in the films (a lot of it is like that, though). I also do not have a pet sheep, contrary to popular opinion about New Zealand seems to be.

I am a recent graduate of Victoria University, where I majored in classical studies; for two years, however, my major was archaeology. I eventually tired of sorting out the bird bones from the rat bones and went on to do a one year diploma in web development before returning to complete my BA.

I love to listen to music, read books, play on my Nintendo DS and watch movies.

My current goal is to become a published author, and my dream to be able to make my living as a full-time writer. I have completed the first draft one novel, Blood Bound, and while that is in editing I am working on my second (The Superhero Diaries). For more information about my works and for extracts, please visit the projects page of my writing blog, Working Title.

Right now, however, I am going to take the days as they come and enjoy life.

About the Site

Although I have been building websites for several years now, Disdainful Soul in any incarnation did not exist until mid-2006. It was around this time that I discovered the miracles that are DIVs (yes, yes…. I coded using tables made in Dreamweaver *hangs head*), and started learning about web standards.

The domain name, disdainful-soul.net, is a reference to the last line of the Aeneid. As a student of classics - especially literature and myth - we studied all the great epics: Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, and Virgil’s Aeneid. When looking for a name for my new LiveJournal, I decided to go with something classical. Always loving the description of Turnus’s final moments, I chose a section of that to be my new ID.

The crimson stream distain’d his arms around,
And the disdainful soul came rushing thro’ the wound.

On May 9, 2007, I purchased hosting and a domain name from Site5, and moved to my current location, http://disdainful-soul.net. D-S.net is powered by wordpress and a number of plugins.
