Conversation Lost Its Weight Anyway
Twenty-one is such a good number
Conversation lost its weight anyway
We are walking on a thin line
No you better stay away from this
And shut your mug and read my lips
We are just kids

It seems that turning 21 is a big deal. As I mentioned in my last post on the subject, my 21st birthday is approaching, and I’m not feeling all that happy about it.
My father passed on the message that my Uncle and Aunt (my father’s brother and his wife) wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday. This is odd, as sister and I never get asked and instead get given cash/gift vouchers. So it seems that they are treating the big 2-1 as something important as well.
My parents are the same; Dad asked me what I wanted after I asked him why Uncle and Aunt asked what I wanted.
Dad told me about how when he was turning 21 it was at the time that all the ages was going down to 20. People didn’t know if they was still supposed to celebrate turning 21, or did they change it to 20? Now, though, you can do everything at 18 - drink, drive (but not drink and drive), get married, give blood and more. But we still celebrate turning 21 more than we do 18 and 20.
I asked if I was going to get one of those wooden “congrats you’re 21″ keys to hang on my wall. Dad said no.
So now I have no idea what to ask for.

A nintendo Wii!
Ha ha ha. I wish. We’re not that well off, sadly.
Although I could ask them to pitch in towards the new iPod I’ve been planning on getting then, anyway.
What’s wrong with cold hard cash? It’s my preferred present!
Pitching in for an iPod sounds like a good idea, though.
Cash is good, but I’m getting the impression that they are talking something else (like, they were planning on buying sister some more flying time - she pilots), something more tangible.
iPod for the win. My father was asking why I wanted a new mp3 player, and I was all, “Mine’s too small! It’s only 8GB!” and he was all, “Be more selective in what you put on then!” “I have 40+GB of music on my comp - what do you think I have been doing?”
Parents don’t understand.
I have about 4GB on my laptop… And an 8GB ipod… I do have videos and stuff on it as well… *must download more podcasts*
