Invites to a Fictional Dinner
10 October 2007, 9:47 am in General
After reading a post by Aisling about who she would invite to a fancy dinner, I have decided to do the same. Like her, this is my “pop culture” seating arrangement - later I’ll make other lists, for other groups of people (living and dead), fictional characters and mythological characters. Myth will be next, maybe.
- J.K. Rowling: I just want to be able to pick her brain about anything and everything to do with the Harry Potter universe. Now that the books are finished she’s been a whole lot freer about releasing details.
- Hugh Laurie: I love this guy. I love him in Blackadder, I love him in House, and I loved his novel - I can’t wait for the sequel!
- Stephen Fry: Come on! Gotta have a bit of Fry and Laurie!
- Lily Cole: I have the biggest crush on this supermodel, and I would love it if she could sit next to me - I’d spend the whole night staring at her. She’s got brains as well as beauty, too, so if I could remember how to talk we might have an interesting conversation.
- George Lucas: This man is my god!
I’m a shameless Star Wars addict, so much so that my Guides Promise reads “I promise, with the help of the Force”… Expect to see Star Wars characters for a fictional dinner. Or a fictional Star Wars dinner. - Tuomas Holopainen: The man is a musical genius, and is behind the symphonic metal band Nightwish. And he’s a Disney fan who likes movie scores. Score!
- Anna Paquin: Winning out the final place is actress Anna Paquin. I’ve been a fan since forever, and she and I went to the same school. I have a story told to me by the German teacher about Anna playing their Eine Kleine Deutschmusik songs on the piano.
- Catherine: I get to sit at the head of the table.

Excellent choices! I would like to have dinner with JK Rowling as well. Maybe I shall invite her to my “Literary Geniuses,” dinner…
Invite Hugh Laurie to that dinner, too! The Gun Seller is awesome.
I need to start figuring out which ones to do next. Probably myth and Star Wars.
You’re a Nightwish fan?! I never would have picked it.
If you’re unable to get Anna Paquin, I can come and sit in and pretend to be her. I get told I look like her all the time. Her and the actress that used to play Delphie on Shortland Street.
Surprise, surprise - I like femme-fronted metal. Although Marco’s increased amount of singing in Dark Passion Play is slowly opening me up to other forms of metal. But right now I’m sticking to symphonic and gothic metal.
But yes, I like Nightwish. Others include: Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Leaves’ Eyes, Xandria, and Delain. I am holding out for Tarja’s My Winter Storm to come out later this year - the single I Walk Alone is being released later this month.
Your music taste wins!
My music taste is so varied. I love metal, musicals and movie scores, but I’m open to just about anything except country, Avril Lavigne and Disneyboobs like Lindsay and Hilary.
I must admit, it is odd to go from something like Bye Bye Beautiful (*hearts*) to Without Love from Hairspray.
I’m sad you didn’t invite me. I may not be a pop culture icon, but I’m close!
This makes me wonder what famous people I would invite, but I’d probably end up choosing my top 7 hottest males to just stare at. No intellectual discussion needed…
Well, going by models, I shall pick:
Layke Anderson
Steven Strait
Shaun DeWet
Lily Cole
Gemma Ward
Ruslana Korshunova (long-haired Ruslana, mind you)
and that’s it. I can’t think of anyone who’s more model, less actor. Steven Strait is pushing that limit.
And that’s it. I really need to do my “Introducing Hot Models” post.Ooh, that’d be an interesting meal. I think you’d get some very deep conversation, and some good giggles!
(ps your anna link is broken)
Yup.
So is my Tuomas link.
Both are fixed now.
