Money, Money, Money

Last night, as I was taking ‘the girls’ - the Girl Guide unit I am a junior leader with - out for a walk to the park, and then down to McDonald’s for an ice cream, I realised that I had no money to pay my bus fare. So I dashed next door to the ATM, which was outside the local branch of my bank. And it was there I noticed how much the NZ dollar was trading for.

80 US cents. 80!

For a while now, New Zealand has been up in arms over the fact that the NZ dollar is rising against other major currencies - like all things, it’s good for some (importers, NZ tourists going overseas) and bad for others (exporters, tourists coming from overseas). The RBNZ tried to bring the dollar down somewhat by doing something that I tuned out when my father tried to explain it, but that didn’t work. At all. Small dip, then the NZD just kept going back up.

And now I have just checked other currencies.

AUD = 0.90
CAD = 0.83
Euro = 0.58
GBP = 0.39!

So it seems we are the strongest performing currency in the world.

    Hehe… I love how our currency is so strong. It means I can get $140 (USD) webhosting for 80 quid…

    Hey, do you like False Start? I want their CD, but alas I’m not in new ziggy… =(

    This False Start? I’d never heard of them until you brought them up.

    And now I have a new Five Things. Have you heard of Zed, Brooke Fraser, Stellar*, Goodnight Nurse or Bic Runga?
