Learn PHP, You Must. Yes, Hmmm.

Alternative title: I Am Now A PHP Padawan. Don’t be a smartarse and spoilsport like J.K. and tell me that I am too old.

Our time with Macromedia Adobe Flash has come to an end. And thus we are moving on to something I have been wanting to do for some time: PHP scripting. Up until now, my only experience with PHP was using includes, and various premade scripts, such as NL-PHPMail, the Bella series, and etc. And even then the most I ever did was a little bit of fiddling with BellaBiblio to make it suitable for movies (changing some names, adding a few more categories etc.).

But now I am no longer a PHP n00b Youngling, for I am moving on to the next stage of my PHP training… Padawan status!

Within the Jedi Order during the waning years of the Republic, youngling was an unofficial title, referring to a Force-sensitive child undergoing the early stages of Jedi training—otherwise known as a Jedi Initiate.

A Padawan, Padawan learner, or Jedi Apprentice in Basic, was a child, or in some cases an adult, who began serious training under a Jedi Knight or a Jedi Master, chosen by the Knight or Master himself from the ranks of the younglings.

Wookieepedia.

This seems to be the longest module of my studies, but I am so excited about it all. Although it is unnerving that we are making our own CMS by the end of the module (late September?), again, I am so excited.

Any plans to ditch Wordpress? Building a CMS from scratch sounds so complex. Gotta be satisfying though! Good luck with that, I’m still trying to get includes down-pat.

I would like to learn PHP, but I don’t have the time to read about it yet. Maybe after college! I want… NEED to learn it. *envious looks*

@Paddy: No plans to ditch Wordpress just yet. I quite like it - I admit, I’m a plugin addict, so that could be why. And right now, I don’t trust myself to fix something as major as my blog. If it works, and is safe, I’ll use it for other sites.

I hate having to fix some tiny little thing, then having to reupload several pages to do that. Actually, I hate having to go home to do that, because I need FTP access.

@Skye: Yeah, time to read about it is going to be a problem. My PHP and MySQL textbook arrived the other day… it’s over 900 pages long. No wonder my shoulder was hurting yesterday!
